The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder football team hit the field on August 6th for their first practice. The first game for the Thunder will be in Cloquet on August 24th.

Among the features for the Thunder this year will be the chance to play two football games at Carlton High School and two in Cloquet. It should be especially exciting for former Carlton standout Chaise Jokinen who is a starting wide receiver for the Thunder.

Keith Turner enters his third season as the coach of FDLTCC. In his first two seasons the Thunder missed the state playoffs by one game, a situation that Turner hopes to rectify this season.

“We feel we have a good team,” said Turner. “We think we have a chance to be good and a chance to make a run for the MCAC Northern Division championship and a run to the state tournament.”

Among key players for the Thunder will be Cody Anderson at quarterback. Anderson, who played at AlBrook, set numerous passing records three seasons ago in high school. After playing as a freshman Anderson took a year off from football and is back looking to lead the team on the field. Joining Anderson will be a pair of Superior athletes in Mark Murray and Cam Stanley. Murray is a guard and Stanley a tight end. Aaron Bevington, a Denfeld graduate, will anchor the right tackle position.

Defensively the Thunder will look for leadership from Tony Klass of Denfeld on the defensive line, Derek Walli of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at linebacker and Ramont Thompson at cornerback.

The Thunder will open at home on Friday, August 24th at 7pm.
