Tony Deleon has a long history in football. The former college standout was the first coach in Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College history and is now the Athletic Director and a Phy-Ed teacher at the new South Ridge school in Culver. Now, Deleon has been tabbed as the new football coach at the second year school.

“I am excited about trying to establish a tradition of excellence in the football program,” explained Deleon. “Because the school and program is only in its second year there is a great opportunity for us to set the bar high.”

After leaving FDLTCC, Deleon stayed in coaching by coaching a junior high team in Avon Park, Florida in 2010. Last year Deleon was an assistant coach at Esko High School and he now finds himself at the helm of the Panthers. South Ridge was formed when both Cotton and AlBrook were merged into one school.

“This is a great chance to teach young men about the game of football,” remarked Deleon. “It is also a great chance to teach these young men to play hard and to teach them about life expectations.”

Joining the coaching staff will be longtime assistant coach at AlBrook, Brent Johnson, and newcomer Tom Spanoila.

The Panthers will hit the field on Monday, August 13th at 3:30.

“We’ll hold one longer practice each day instead of going two-a-days,” said Deleon. “We have 10 seniors back and we have a talented junior class so we have a good mix of kids and I think it should be a lot of fun.”
