Xpress Top Duluth Padres For Hibbing Tournament Championship

The Duluth Xpress won the championship game of the Hibbing Hull Rust Invitational Tournament 9-2 over the Duluth Padres at Al Nyberg Field.

Winning pitcher Zack Farmer worked two innings in relief of starter Brian Houdek. Farmer allowed one hit and had two strikeouts. Houdek allowed two runs on one hit, seven walks, and two hit batsmen with three strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Dan Anderson and Jon Kusch had two hits each for the Xpress, and Kyle Jensen and Jake Casareto contributed one hit and two RBIs apiece. Jensen and Rejean Carlson both had three runs scored.

Losing pitcher Alex Oachs (0-1, 9.00 ERA) allowed four earned runs on six hits, three walks, and a hit batsman in four innings; Oachs had two strikeouts. Jesse Olson threw three shutout innings in relief of Oachs.

Tim Nylund was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Chris Musolf was 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Padres (6-9). The Padres committed six errors.

The Xpress improved to 14-2.
