Duluth Padres Advance To Finals of Hibbing Tournament

The Duluth Padres have won their first two games of the Hibbing Hull-Rust Invitational Tournament and will play for the tournament championship tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Hibbing.

PADRES 2, HIBBING 1 (7 Innings)


On Friday, winning pitcher Jake Lewis (1-0, 1.35 ERA) scattered 10 hits as the Padres defeated the Hibbing Miners 2-1 at Hibbing’s Al Nyberg Field. Lewis had five strikeouts and one walk in six and two-thirds innings pitched. Cody Dolsen got the save by recording the final out. Hibbing left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning.


Duluth’s Nick Moran and Kevin Hendrickx both scored on passed balls in the top of the sixth inning. Tim Nylund had two hits for Duluth.


Mike Belich hit a home run and Eli Tintor had three hits for Hibbing.

PADRES 5, SPOONER LOGGERS 0 (7 Innings)


On Saturday, Anthony Bush (3-0, 0.97 ERA) threw a four-hit shutout as the Padres defeated Spooner 5-0 at Nyberg Field. Bush had eight strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.


Nathan Windschill had two hits and two RBIs and Nick Moran had two hits and an RBI for Duluth. Bush was 1-for-3 with a double.


Brandon Shutt had two hits for Spooner.
