It was a record setting day at the Lake Superior Conference track meet on Tuesday in Cloquet despite windy conditions that could have prevented top performances. Among the record setters was Matt Welch of Proctor who set meet records in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs with teammate Romeo Benish finishing second in both events.

Ashland won the boys event followed by; Denfeld, Hermantown, Proctor, Cloquet, Superior and Duluth Marshall. Hermantown took the girls team title followed by; Superior, Proctor, Cloquet, Denfeld, Ashland and Duluth Marshall.

Rachel Hoium of Hermantown took the 110 meter hurdles with Micayla Westendorf of Proctor finishing second. In the 100-meter dash it was Lauren Magnuson of Superior taking top honors with Raya Kosey her teammate finished second. The 200 saw Kosey return the favor and Magnuson taking second. Hermantown captured top honors in the 3200 relay, while Cloquet did the same in the 800 relay and then Hermantown rebounded to finish first in the 400 relay.

The girls 1600 meter run was won by Leah Holmes of Superior with Nikki Roach of Hermantown taking second. Holmes also won the 3200 with Roach again finishing as the runner-up. Kosey, added to her trophy case by winning the 400 meter run in a time of 1:00.95 and by winning the long jump in 16′ 6″.

Carissa Welch of Superior was the pole vault winner and Ashland’s Nicole Weibe was the winner of the high jump.

Ashley Michaelson of Hermantown was a double winner in the discus and shot put and Hoium also was a double winner by taking the triple jump as well as the 110 hurdles.

On the boys side it was Zach Fischer, of Ashland, winning the 110-meter hurdles with Carter Anderson of Superior taking second. In the 300 meter hurdles it was Anderson notching the win and Fischer taking second. J. D. Foldesi, of Denfeld, won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with Cloquet’s Brad Butcher taking second in the 100 and Frank Deluca of Proctor finishing second in the 200.

Denfeld captured first in both the 3200 and 800 relays. Connor Behm of the Hunters was the 400 meter dash champion and Dylan Marvel of Cloquet won a close race in the 800 meter run.

The pole vault was won by Cloquet’s Carter Halfrisch and Corey Anderson of Hermantown was the winner of the high jump. Hermantown’s Jeremy Peterson was the winner of the shot and discus. In the shot he set a conference meet record of 51-11 and he threw the discus 151-11 another meet record.

Erik Miklausich set a meet record in the long jump by going 21′-10″ and he also set a meet record in the triple jump of 42-9. Ironically, Corey Anderson of Hermantown also would have set the meet records in both events had he not had Miklausich finishing ahead of him.

Welch set records in both the 3200 and the 1600 runs.
