Expectations for this year’s Cloquet softball team have been high. The Lumberjacks were returning six starters, including their entire infield, and were looking to take the field by storm. So far the season has been a bit up and down, but on Tuesday night the Jacks delivered an 11-1 win over Proctor at Braun Park behind the hitting of shortstop Dalyce Gustafson.

Gustafson, who is headed to play for UMD next year, pounded out a bases loaded double and a bases loaded triple in helping to lead the offense to the type of game they hope they can play for the rest of the season.

The Lumberjacks also got a pair of hits, including a double, from third baseman Shania Paulson. Jade Benko also had a hit and a pair of RBIs for the Cloquet while Kelly Carlson scored three runs in the win.

On the mound it was Chandler Beaupre pitching a five-inning two-hitter with three strikeouts and a couple of walks.

Karley Kruger delivered a double for the Rails.

The win pushes the Cloquet record to 9-7 on the season.
