LeGarde’s Grand Slam in Fifth Leads Hawks Over Hibbing

Kevin Stocke continued on with his impressive performances on the pitcher mound this spring as Stocke helped lead the Hermantown Hawks to an impressive 12-1 six inning victory over the Hibbing Bluejackets Tuesday afternoon in Hibbing.


The Hawks scored runs in five of the six innings played Tuesday. Hermantown scored two runs in the first and second innings and added one run in the third inning. The Hawks added two more runs in the fifth inning, and scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning.


The Bluejackets scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead at that point to 5-1, before Hermantown added seven runs to close out the Bluejackets in six innings Tuesday at Al Nyberg Field in Hibbing.


Kevin Stocke was the winning pitcher Tuesday; he went six innings, allowed one unearned run on the day, he gave up three hits and struck out seven Hibbing batters. Conner Perry took the loss for the Bluejackets.


Mike Robertson finished 3-4 on the day for Hermantown, he finished with two singles and a double on the afternoon, Robertson also had four runs batted in for Hermantown. Lane LeGarde was also 3-4 on the afternoon which included a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning.


LeGarde added a double to go along with his grand slam home run and finish with five runs batted in on the day. Chris Hanson led the Bluejackets as he finished going 2-3 on the day for Hibbing in the sectional loss.


Hermantown now improves to 16-0 on the season and they will be back at home on Thursday when the Hawks will host the defending Section 7AA champion Proctor Rails. The Hawks defeated the Rails earlier this season by a score of 4-3 at Proctor.


Hibbing falls to 7-5 on the season and they will be back in action this weekend when they will host their annual wood bat classic tournament on Friday and Saturday at Al Nyberg Field. Besides Hibbing, the tournament will feature Superior, Proctor, and Thief River Falls.
