WILLOW RIVER- Andrea Youngberg went 3-4 Thursday afternoon including a three run home run which broke a 2-2 tie in the second inning as the Rebels knocked off the Silver Bay Mariners by a score of 7-4 in this Polar League Conference contest.

Youngberg, who finished 3-4 with three runs batted in, also added a triple, a single and a stolen base as well as scoring three runs in the Rebels victory. The Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the Mariners who had scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

“We came up with some really big hits today” Head Coach Andrew Miller also told Northland Sports Online, “We are playing some of our best ball right now and we have a lot of girls who come up big every game; and today it was Andrea.”

The Rebels added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to keep the margin to at least two runs the rest of the game. The Rebels also came up with a couple of huge defense plays and pitcher Samantha Johnson came up with strikeouts when they were needed most.

“They made some great plays out there today,” Head Silver Bay Coach Mike Guzzo told Northland Sports Online. “You take away the great catch in left field and we are tied, but give them credit the made the plays and hit the ball when they needed to” Guzzo added.

Jodi Michalski finished with a double and two runs batted in for the Rebels, Samantha Johnson and Alley Bode had the other hits for the Rebels. Taylor Guzzo and Marina Carter both went 2-3 for Silver Bay and they each scored a run in the Mariners loss.

The Rebels improve to 7-5 on the season and they will face Rush City on Friday afternoon in Willow River; they will also play at Barnum on Saturday at noon. The Mariners fall to 11-5 overall and they host Two Harbors on Monday afternoon in a Polar League battle.
