Lady Bulldogs Win Eighth Straight

The Carlton Bulldogs used timely hitting and good pitching as the Bulldogs defeated the McGregor Mercuries in this girls softball match-up by a score of 11-1 Thursday at Chub Lake Park in Carlton. The Lady Bulldogs pounded out eight extra base hits in the victory.


The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning; Christine Eggert, Brooke Camps, and Megan Nelson all scored runs in the inning. Nelson and Camps each had triples for the Bulldogs in the inning. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second inning to make it a 5-0 lead after two.


Carlton added three more runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to 10 run rule the Mercuries by a score of 11-1. Megan Nelson scored three runs for Carlton while Brooke Camps scored two runs in the Bulldogs victory.


Camps finished 2-3 on the day, including a double and a triple. Alanna Groth, Clarissa Nelson, and Christine Eggert all had two hits as well for Carlton in the win. Eggert finished with a double and a triple, while Nelson had two doubles, Groth also had an extra base hit double for Carlton.


The Bulldogs Grace Macor was the winning pitcher Thursday. She allowed only three hits by the Mercuries, Macor struck out 11 batters, she also struck out the first nine batters she faced on Thursday; and she didn’t allow a walk on the afternoon.


Carlton improves to 10-2 on the season and they have won eight straight games since last losing to Two Harbors back on April 17. The Bulldogs will be in action again on Friday afternoon when the host the Cromwell Cardinals in a Polar League Conference contest.


McGregor falls to 4-9 on the season and they are in action again on Monday when they will face Cromwell in a Conference match-up. McGregor will then close their regular season on Tuesday as they face both Nashwauk-Keewatin and the Rebels of Moose Lake-Willow River.
