Things got about as nutty and crazy as they possibly could in the Cloquet versus Superior girls softball game at Braun Park on Tuesday night. Trailing 11-1 entering the fifth inning the Lumberjacks somehow rallied to tie the game and send the game into extra innings, only to fall 18-13 after the Spartans scored five runs of their own in the top of the eighth inning.

In order to tie the game the Lumberjacks had to score six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then they added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull even at 11-11, only to have the game get away from them in the top of the eighth inning.

Emily Hanson and Tailor Schuster both scored five runs to lead Superior. Hanson also had three hits, while Taylor Johnson had four hits and Schuster recorded three hits.

Kayla Masessa helped to lead the Jacks with four runs scored and three hits, while Shania Paulson had two doubles and Jade Benko added a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The loss puts the Jacks overall record at 7-6 on the season. They will play in a doubleheader at Princeton on Friday, facing Princeton at 4:30 and North Branch at 6:00pm
