ML-WR Girls Explode For 12-0 Road Win

FLOODWOOD- Samantha Johnson posted her second consecutive shutout on Thursday as the Lady Rebels knocked of the Floodwood Polar Bears by a score of 12-0 at Floodwood Thursday afternoon. Johnson threw a two hitter for Moose Lake-Willow River in the six inning road win.


Johnson used another commanding pitching performance Thursday as she only allowed two hits, struck out seven Polar Bears and finished with three bases on balls. Johnson also aided herself from the batters box by going 3-3 from the plate, including 3 runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base for the Rebels.


The second inning proved to be very important Thursday as the Rebels scored seven runs on six hits in the inning to jump out to the 7-0 lead after two innings of play. The Rebels were aided by three Floodwood errors in the inning. Moose Lake-Willow River also had five stolen bases in the inning.


Johnson scored the eighth run of the game in the fourth inning when she scored on a fielders choice from Jodi Michalski. The Rebels added four more runs in the sixth inning to make it a 12-0 lead and the 10 run rule came into effect when Floodwood was unable to score three runs to extend the game.


Floodwood, who had entered the game losing four straight, fell again as they could only muster two hits on the afternoon. Sydney Lough doubled to right field in the second inning, but was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple. Brianna Baumann singled in the fifth inning and advanced to third base but was stranded there as the inning ended fort the other Floodwood run.


Kaitlyn Greene was 3-4 on the afternoon with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Andrea Youngberg was 2-4 with a RBI and a stolen base. Olivia Bennett, Ally Bode, Jodi Michalski, and Maddie Milczark all had hits in the Rebels win.


The Rebels improve to 3-4 on the season and they will be in action again on Friday when they host East Central in Willow River in a non-conference match-up. The Polar Bears fall to 1-5 on the season and they will be in action on Tuesday when the host Two Harbors in a Polar League contest.
