Rebels Boys And Girls Win Barnum Ice Out Track Meet

The Moose Lake-Willow boys and girls tracks teams swept the Barnum Ice Out meet on Thursday at Barnum High School. The Rebels took home first in this six team meet on both sides as they placed ahead of Cromwell in both the boys and girls meets.


The Boys meet saw the Rebels finish with 194 points to finish ahead of Cromwell, who was second with 126. Duluth Marshall finished third with 89, Barnum was fourth in their home meet, while McGregor was fifth with 46 points and Floodwood had 31.


The Rebels girls track team finished with the same total as the boys as they had 194 points also. Cromwell had 120, Duluth Marshall was third with 82, McGregor was fourth with 46, Barnum was fifth with 37, and it was Floodwood coming in with 20 points.


Moose Lake-Willow River’s Jake Disterhaupt and Josh Cisar dominated the sprints as Cisar won both the 200 and 400 meter races, while Disterhaupt won the 100 meter race. Cisar finished second in the 100 meter race while Disterhaupt placed second in the other two events. Cisar also won his third event with a win in the shot put.


The Rebels also had individual winners in the 800 meter run as Ben Moonen finished first. Michael Pender won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, Disterhaupt won his second event with the winning jump in the high jump, and the Rebels also captured the 400 and the 3200 meter relay events.


Cromwell’s Nick Koening won both the 1600, and the 3200 meter runs. Jared Hutar of Cromwell was second in the 1600, and Austin Pfistner also of Cromwell was second in the 3200 meter run, and it was Austin Johnson from Cromwell taking first place in the discus.


The Rebels took home first place finishes in the girls events in the 200 meter race as Dana Olson was first, Haley Johnson placed first in the 400 meters, Holly Mattison won the 100 meter hurdles, and it was Lexi Fanning won the triple jump.


Cromwell was very successful in dominating the relays as they swept all four relay races, Allie Cahoon won the 800 meter race, Jenna Koenig won the 3200 meter run, Kiera Anderson placed first in the long jump, and it was Cromwell’s Samantha Suhonen who won the discus.


Two other local winners included Sara Scharnberg who won the high jump for the Floodwood Polar Bears, and it was Barnum’s Daron Mainville who took the only first place finish for either the boys or girls teams as she won the shot put event.
