Cloquet baseball coach Steve Jezierski said that the experience of coaching in the Arrowhead All-Star baseball game was one of the more fun times he’s had in the coaching business. It probably didn’t hurt that his South team mounted a come-from-behind 2-1 victory and that his son was also on the team.

“The whole thing was put together very nicely,” commented Jezierski on Wednesday morning. “They do a real solid job of putting it together and it was a lot of fun for all of us.”

Thomas Jezierski and Dennis Conklin, both of Cloquet, helped to represent the South as well as a Dan Anderson of Moose Lake-Willow River and a trio of Esko players including Matt Tengesdal, Steve Lewis and Jamie Stokes.

“Our players got along really well,” recalled Jezierski. “I think the fact that our kids hit it off so well made it easier to rally around each other.”

Trailing 1-0 in the seventh inning, the South tied the game and then won it with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

“It was one of the best times I’ve ever had coaching,” explained Jezierski. “I was surprised at the pitching depth and how many good pitchers that each team had. It just shows there are a lot of good pitchers on teams around here, but it’s just that some of those teams only have one pitcher and they don’t have enough depth at that position.”
