Proctor Rails Get Tight 45-42 Road Win

The Proctor Rails entered Thursday night’s game with Cloquet seeded ninth in the Section 7AAA standing knowing a win would definitely help the Rails as they seek to move into the top eight or better. The Rails pulled out a 45-42 win this Lake Superior Conference battle.

The Rails took advantage of the Lumberjacks, who shot poorly on Tuesday night. The Jacks managed to connect on only 8-26 shots in the first half, as Cloquet found themselves trailing the Rails at halftime by a score of 25-22

The Lumberjacks shooting woes continued in the second half as they shot just 9-42 in the second stanza and finished 17-68 overall with a combined shooting percentage of 25%. The Rails finished shooting 44% for the game as they went 19-43.

Cloquet did many things right on the night, but could not capitalize when they had the opportunities, Proctor finished with 30 turnovers while Cloquet had 26 on the night. The Lumberjacks bench also contributed by scoring 21 points; where as Proctor’s bench ended with 14 on the night.

The Lumberjacks were led by Kenzie Rathe who finished with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Avery Bieri added 9 points and she had an impressive15 rebounds for Cloquet. Reilly Kedrowski finished with 7 points, Shania Paulson 5, Morgan Jensen 4, Carri Zeadow and Courtney Thompson both finished with 2 points on the night, Zeadow also had 5 assists for the Lumberjacks.

The Rails were led by Micayla Westendorf who finished with 15 points; she also pulled down 7 rebounds for the Rails. Bridget Tesser added 9 points, Kyra Harty scored 8, Brianna Westendorf added 6 and Laura Talarico closed with 5 points in the Rails victory.

The Lumberjacks end their season with an overall record of 7-18. They will start the playoffs next week on the road, but their opponent has yet to be determined.


The Rails improve their record to 7-18 overall and they will be in action again tomorrow night as the Rails will face the Mora Mustangs in a non-conference contest at home on Friday night to close out their 2011-2012 regular season.
