The Duluth East Greyhounds came out firing on all cylinders Saturday night as the Greyhounds built a huge first half lead that proved too much for the Lumberjacks to overcome. The Greyhounds win by a score of 103-44 Thursday night at Duluth East High School as the Greyhounds pick up the non-conference victory at home.


The Greyhounds came out strong in the first half and connected on 56% of their shots in the first half; they also connected on 13-14 free throws in the first half to give themselves a 61-20 lead at the break.


Dillon Johnson gave Cloquet its only lead by nailing a 3-pointer to start the game, but hat would be the only lead the Lumberjacks would have Thursday night. The Greyhounds then went on a 24-2 run which gave the Greyhounds a 24-5 lead.


Johnson connected on his second 3-pointer of the game to cut the lead to 24-8, but the greyhounds again were off and running as they went on a 36-12 run to close out the first half as they Greyhounds built up a 39 point half time lead.


The second half saw the Greyhounds continue to use their height advantage inside with Akolda Manyang controlling the middle while Shaq Coleman and Johnny Woodard controlled the perimeter against the Lumberjacks.


Cloquet, who struggled with turnovers in a game Tuesday night against Esko, again struggled taking care of the basketball as they finished with 27 turnovers which East turned into 26 points on the night.


The Lumberjacks were led by Dillon Johnson who finished with 13 points on the night, Nate Weets finished with 9, Trent Moe added 8, Sean Ferrell finished with 4, while Zach Gerlach, Gavin Takkunen, Jake Bushey, Tanner Louhela, and Adam Laine all finished with 2 points.


The Greyhounds were led by Akolda Manyang who had a game high 29 points, Shaq Coleman finished with 23. Johnny Woodard added 21, Taylor Stafford added 11, Quinton Coleman finished with 7, Joe Florestano added 4, Chase Dedominces and Toby Hanson both had 3, and it was Matt Lochner with 2 points on the night.


The Lumberjacks falls to 7-15 on the season and they will be home on Tuesday night when they face the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers. The Greyhounds improve to 14-8 overall on the season and they will be on the road Friday night when they take on St. Thomas Academy.
