Shaelyn Halverson scored a game high 20 points on Thursday night as the Rebels beat the Cloquet Lumberjacks by a 41-38 margin in a non-conference battle at Cloquet High School.

Halverson’s 20 point output included five 3-pointers on the night for the Rebels. Both teams battled in the first half as they both went into the locker room at the break tied at 17-17. The Lumberjacks who have been plagued with injuries this season had only won three of their last ten games and they were hoping to get in the win column Thursday.

The Rebels and Cloquet continued to battle in the second half as the Rebels would outscore the Lumberjacks by three points to come away with the three point win and get the Rebels back in the win column as they had fell to Esko last week.

The Rebels were led by Halverson with 20 points, Taylor Miller added 8, Adri Jusczak, who was coming off an injury scored 6, Kayla Radel added 4 points, and it was Olivia Bennett adding 3 points in the Rebels victory.

The Lumberjacks were led by a duo of players, Reilly Kedrowski and Kenzie Rathe who both scored 10 points on the night. Avery Bieri added 6, Jordan Hanson finished with 5 Morgan Jensen chipped in with 4, and Carri Zeadow closed the scoring with 3 points on the night.

The Rebels improve to 17-7 overall this season and will host Pine City on Saturday afternoon in a sectional match-up. The Lumberjacks fall to 7-15 on the season and they will travel to Hibbing on Friday night to take on the Bluejackets on a sectional battle.
