For the second time this season the Esko Eskomos have defeated the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels and have put themselves in position to capture the Polar League title for the first time in several seasons.

The Eskomos defeated Moose Lake-Willow River by two points back in January but on Friday it was an Eskomo 27 point win as they beat the Rebels by a score of 70-43.

The Eskomos and the Rebels battled in the first half as Esko held four point 28-24 lead at half time, and in the second half the Eskomos exploded for a 42-19 point differential as the Eskomos place themselves in position to capture the Polar League crown with a victory over the Barnum Bombers next Friday night.

The Eskomos Jackson Lindquist again lit it up from the outside as he connected on five 3-pointers to lead the Eskomos in scoring. The Eskomos hit 12 3-pointers on the night. Esko also out-rebounded the Rebels 34-26 and they also outscored the Rebels in points off of turnovers by a margin of 18-11 on the night.

Lindquist led all scorers on the night with 24 points as the Eskomos had four players in double figures. Casey Staniger added 17 points, Marc Peterson poured in 13, and Kory Deadrick added 10 points. Jared Harms scored 4 points and Nate Johnson rounded out the scoring with 2 points on the night.

The Rebels were led by Tony Adamczak, who finished with 16 points for the Rebels. Taylor Mattison score 12 points, Caleb Koecher chipped in with 11, Matt Mach added 3 points, and it was Andy Olson closing the Rebels scoring with 1 point in the conference loss Friday night.

The Eskomos move to 16-4 on the season and they will be in action again on Tuesday night when the Eskomos will host the Cloquet Lumberjacks in a non-conference match-up. The Eskomos will be at home again next Friday when they will host the Bombers in a conference battle.

The Rebels fall to 11-8 on the season and they will be in action on Tuesday night when they will face the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars at Hinckley High school. The Rebels will be at home next Thursday against Aitkin and Saturday against Pine City on two sectional match-ups.
