Wrenshall Girls Win, Boys Lose To Silver Bay

The Wrenshall Wrens played a home boys and girls basketball double header on Friday night in Wrenshall and it was the Lady Wrens winning their second straight game 54-34, but the boys fell in the night cap Friday by a score of 77-56.


The Lady Wrens who were coming off their first win of the season a week ago over Hill City, saw themselves win their second straight game with the 20 point win over the Mariners in this conference contest.


The Wrens who led at halftime by one point at 20-19 blew the game open in the second half as Wrenshall outscored Silver Bay by 19 points in the second half to come away with the 20 point win.


Natalie Peaney led the Wrens with 17 points including three long range bombs; Maria Burcar added 11 points and Cassie Wimmer finished in double figures with 10 points. Alicia Nopola led the Mariners with 19 points on the night.


Wrenshall improves to 2-17 on the season and they face Cook County next Friday in Grand Marais. The Mariners fall to 2-16 on the season and they will be home Monday when the face Northeast Range.


Luke Thun scored 27 points as Silver Bay had four players in double figures as the Mariners knocked off the Wrens by 21 points Friday night. The Mariners hit 20 free throws compared to only nine for Wrenshall.


Following Thun was Henry Mitchell who scored 19, Kyle Blood added 14, and Taylor Woodwick chipped in with 10 points. Pat Gustafson led Wrenshall with 15 points and Jared Kittle chipped in with 13 in the conference loss.


The Wrens fall to 0-17 on the season and they will be home next Thursday when they host Hill City. The Mariners improve to 7-10 and they are home Monday as they also will face Northeast Range in a sectional matchup.
