ESKO- With two close games in the past week, the Eskomos were hoping to jump out early and not have a tight finish like they have had in their last two games; and they did just that as they jumped out early and rolled to a 66-26 win Thursday night at Esko High School.

The Eskomos and the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels both struggled early in the first half with turnovers as each team found it hard to get into a flow of the game. The Eskomos did work the ball inside to Savanna Trapp in the first half and she had 13 points to lead the Eskomos to a 29-10 lead at the break.

The Rebels struggled offensively as well in the first half, only making one of their first 25 shots from the field. They finished 3-28 from the floor in the first half as they found themselves trailing by 19 points at halftime.

The second half saw the Eskomos come out rapidly and built up a 30 point lead just minutes into the second half. Pressure defense led to easy transition baskets as the Rebels found themselves falling behind as their shooting woes continued. Shaelyn Halverson hit the Rebels first three baskets in the second half but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the Eskomos.

Trapp finished the game with a game high 23 points, while she added 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Marisa Shady added 13 points, Megan Reuer scored 8, Kailee Katt finished with 7, Brooke Schramm and Erika Shady both scored 4 points, Steph Bandelin added 3, Kailee Kiminski and Ashley Bergson rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.

The Rebels were led by Halverson who finished with 8 points, Taylor Miller added 6, Jodi Michaelski scored 4, Samantha Johnson and Kayla Radel each chipped in with 3 points and it was Olivia Bennett adding 2 points in the loss for the Rebels.

The Eskomos move to 19-1 on the season and they will face Duluth Denfeld at home on Monday night. The Rebels are back in action again next Thursday night when they will face the Lumberjacks at Cloquet High School. The Rebels fall to 16-7 on the season.
