The St. Scholastica women’s hockey team scored two goals in the final four minutes and 10 seconds, including a goal by Cloquet alum Courtney Esse as time expired as the Saints were able escape with a 2-2 tie at Augsburg College on Saturday night.

The Auggies picked up a first period goal by Jessica Larkin five minutes into the game and took a 2-0 lead midway through the third period on a Sara Rajewsky goal despite the Saints holding a big shot advantage.

The Saints finally broke through on a Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn. /Cretin-Derham Hall) goal with 4:10 left in the game. Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) had the assists. Then in overtime, the Saints would be awarded a penalty shot, but would be denied by Augsburg goaltender Brianna Schulz. The Auggies tied the Saints in shots in the overtime session with each recording four, but the game would end in a 4-4 tie.

Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) made 13 saves for the Saints, while Schulz had 49 saves for the Auggies. CSS out-shot Augsburg 51-15. The Saints were 0-for-6 on the power-play, while committing only one penalty themselves.
