If not for a last second basket in the opening game of the year the Esko Eskomos could be 5-0 instead of 4-1. The Eskomos reeled off their fourth straight win Monday night in a sectional battle against the Deer River Warriors and the Eskomos knocked off the previous unbeaten Warriors by a score of 67-45.

The first half saw both teams battling for the edge up at Deer River High School; and as the first half game to an end it was Esko leading by four points 28-24. With both teams locked so closely in the first half it was easy to see the similarities as both teams shot 25% from the floor in the first half, Esko was 1-2 from the free throw line while Deer River was 0-4.

Esko also connected on three first half 3-pointers which made the difference of four at halftime. Both teams battled pretty evenly to start the second half until the 11:00 minute mark when the Eskomos who were leading 40-35 went on a 27-10 run to close out the Warriors and pick up a huge road win Monday night.

The Eskomos were led by senior guard Jackson Lindquist, who finished with 25 points on the night including going 7-7 from the free throw line. Casey Staniger finished with 12 points, Kory Deadrick and Marc Peterson both added 9 points, Jared Harms added 6 points and it was Ben Hanson finishing with 3 points on the night.

The Warriors were led by Noah Kaczor, who finished with 10 points on the night, Henry Hellmann and Damon Benham each finished with 8, Easton Marleau added 7, and it was Jack Carter and Eythan Stanglund who both rounded out the Warriors scoring Monday night with 6 points each in the loss at home.

The Eskomos with the win move to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in section play. Esko will be in action again on Tuesday when they play at Carlton, taking on the Bulldogs in a conference match-up. The Warriors fall to 5-1 overall on the season and they will play at Grand Rapids on Thursday night.
