The Hermantown Hawks remained unbeaten Tuesday night as the Hawks defeated the Proctor Rails by a score of 93-61 in this Lake Superior Conference matchup at Proctor High School.

The first half saw the Hawks open up the game with a 13 point outburst to take a 13-0 lead before the Rails got on the scoreboard. Kevin Folman hit two three-pointers and added another basket to score eight of the first 13 points.

The Rails cut into the Hermantown lead the Hermantown lead with some hot shooting from the outside, but that was not for long as the Hawks went on a late first half run to give Hermantown a seventeen point lead at halftime.

“Kevin Folman was huge for us tonight hitting two three-pointers to start the game,” Head Coach of Hermantown Mike Pothast told Northland Sports Online. “Most of our success came inside as Spencer Johnson was dominant in the post.”

The second half saw the Hawks continue to apply pressure defensively and continued to work the ball inside to Johnson, who finished with a game high 19 points for Hermantown. The Hawks also used a balanced scoring option as they win by 32.

“We amped up the defensive pressure in the second half,” Coach Pothast added “and the defense pressure is how we continued to create offensively.” Pothast added “Post play, defense and a balanced offense is how we have won all year, and to have five guys in double figures is always nice.”

Spencer Johnson led the Hawks with 19 points as Hermantown had five players score in double figures in the win over Proctor. Kevin Folman added 17 points, it was Corey Anderson who chipped in with 15, Justin Brendon added 14 points and Alex Comstock closed with 11 points of the five in double figures.

The Hawks now improve to 3-0 on the season and they will be in action again on Friday when they will host North Branch in a sectional match up. The Rails fall to 1-2 on the season and they also are in action Friday night as they have a Lake Superior Conference matchup with the Lumberjacks at Cloquet High School.
