Barnum Girls Open The Season With A Win

The Barnum Bombers opened the 2011-2012 season with a victory on the road Tuesday night in Cromwell with a score of 83-36. The Bombers who are playing back in section seven for the first time since 2006 are looking to return to the state girls basketball tournament after falling last season in the Section 5A Championship game in Crosby.


The Bombers opened up a twenty point first half lead behind some hot outside shooting that featured seven three pointers from Claire and Caitlyn Rodgers for the game. The Bombers took a 42-22 lead at the end of the first half and rolled to the forty-seven point win at Cromwell High School on Tuesday night.


The Bombers were led by Claire Rodgers who finished with 25 points on the night, Daron Mainville added 17, Claudia Turner chipped in with 14, Caitlin Rodgers ended with 12, and Katie Myhre finished with 10 points allowing all five starters to finish in double figures. Cheyenne Johnson and Emma Casey both added 2 points while Lissa Warpula rounded out the scoring with 1 point for the Bombers.


The Cardinals were led by Makayleigh Cahoon who led Cromwell with 11 points, Ann Collman and Kayle Johnson both ended with 6, Allie Cahoon added 5 points, Marlene Wester finished with 3, while Johanna Stenson ended with 2 points, and it was Samantha Suhonen ending with 1 point in the loss.


The Bombers open up with the 1-0 record and they will face the Cloquet Lumberjacks in Cloquet on Friday night. The Cromwell Cardinals start the season 0-1 and they are back in action again on Thursday when they play at Northland as they look to even their record at 1-1 overall.
