WRENSHALL- The Wrenshall Wrens were hoping to start fast this season, looking at improving from last season’s four win total which included a playoff win, but that got off on the wrong foot as the Wrens fell to one of the Section 7A favorites Cherry Tuesday night at home by a score of 87-20.

The Wrens were hoping to use senior Maria Burcar and senior Natalie Peaney to build on this season, but Tuesday night both senior floor leaders spent most of the first half on the Wrenshall bench in foul trouble.

Burcar picked up her third foul less than three minutes into the first half, Peaney also picked up her third foul five minutes into the first half, and with Wrenshall having to rely on several younger players it was the Tigers dominating the first half and never looked back as they rolled to the easy win Tuesday.

The Tigers rolled to a 65-16 lead at halftime using a balanced attack and having more than a dozen players see the court for Cherry. The second half saw the Tigers continue to add to their lead as Wrenshall could never mount a comeback.

Cherry was led by Maria Clement who finished with 15 points on the night, Angel Dahl added 12, Taylor Sauter and Macey Etter both finished with 11 for the Tigers who improve to 2-0 on the season. The Tigers shot 25-40 from the free throw line.

Wrenshall was led by Cassie Wimmer and Maria Burcar, who both finished with 6 points on the night, Shana Laveau added 4, and it was Taylor Dagger and Katie Kelley both ending with 2 points in the loss.

The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season and they will be in action next Monday when the face South Ridge. The Wrens start 0-1 on the season and they will square off against the Panthers of South Ridge on Thursday night at home.
