What started as a small group of kids playing back yard wiffleball has developed into an extraordinary area-wide event featuring over 30 teams. The 5th Annual Memorial Day Wiffleball Tournament will be held in Cloquet at Peterson Park, just off Heather Avenue, on Monday.

“It has become a tradition on Memorial Day,” said tournament organizer Tyler Korby. “We will have over 120 people competing and it will be a great time for everyone.”

There will be 32 teams competing in the tournament with three different fields in use at the Peterson Field Complex. Each team consists of four players.

“The great thing about this tournament is that we match up two older players with two younger players to make the teams even,” Korby explained. “It is just a great wholesome fun type tournament.”

B & B Market will have wagon on hand to feed the players and spectators on the scene. John and Kim Lind of B & B have also bought each player a jersey since the beginning of the tournament five years ago.

“We have great sponsors and if it weren’t for them we could not have the tournament,” mentioned Korby who is a member of the National Wiffleball Hall of Fame. “The championship game will be aired on WKLK Radio on Monday evening right around 6:00.”

Those wanting to watch the tournament will be able to find ample opportunity since the tournament will begin at 8am on Memorial Day and run through until the title tilt at 6pm.
