The University of Minnesota Duluth capped off its first day at the PFX Athletics Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Sunday by posting victories against two nationally-ranked opponents, knocking off  No. 13 University of Southern Indiana 1-0 and No. 7 Grand Valley State University 8-6.

The Bulldogs, who have now won four straight after starting the season 1-5, clinched the win over Southern Indiana of the Great Lakes Valley Conference on freshman left fielder Jayme Langbehn‘s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

UMD senior pitcher Sam Hartmann (3-2) went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out three while recording her second shutout of the year. Langbehn went 2-for-3 and was the lone Bulldog with more than one hit. Her one-out single in the bottom of the seventh brought home rookie Lauren Greeder.

Against the Lakers (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), UMD struck for three runs on three hits in the top of first and all but put the game away with a three-run fourth.  A pair of juniors — second baseman Natalie Wright and shortstop Becky Smith —  both went 3-for-5 for the Bulldogs, who built an 8-1 lead going into the bottom half of the fifth.

Wright had two triples and drove in three runs as did sophomore Kalyn Titlon.  Sophomore Valerie Hohol (1-0) threw five innings of eight-hit ball to earn the pitching win before being replaced by freshman Ashley Taipale.Taiple gave up one run and two hits en route to registering her first collegiate save.

UMD will square off with Long Island University Post (2-0) on Monday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
