Cloquet Softball Tops Greenway 16-6 Advances In Playoffs

The Cloquet Lumberjacks used a fast start to jump out and down the Raiders as they ended up ten running Greenway by a score of 16-6. The Lumberjacks used three strong innings where they scored more than four runs in three innings as they go on to the ten run win.

The Jacks opened up with a six run first inning as they scored the six runs on four hits, Dalyce Gustafson had two hits in the first inning as the Lumberjacks sent twelve batters to the plate. Katrina Korman and Courtney Esse both had a hit for Cloquet in the first inning also. The fast 6-0 lead after one was short lived as Greenway would answer with three runs in the top of the second.

The Lumberjacks led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the second inning, after the three runs by the Raiders, Cloquet answered right back with five more in the bottom of the second. Kayla Masessa and Alyssa Hansen both had their first hits of the game and Esse would add her second hit and after two innings Cloquet led 11-3.

Greenway added two runs in their half of the third inning to cut the lead to 11-5, Cloquet answered with one run in the fourth inning Kelly Carlson singled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Gustafson. Masessa also singled in the fourth for Cloquet. Greenway would get one run in the top of the fifth, but would get no closer as Cloquet shut the door on Greenway in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Esse walked to start the inning, Korman then Doubled to left field, Shania Paulson singled driving in Esse. A double by Hansen would score two more runs and Hansen scored as Mariah Smith singled to end the game. Korman was the winning pitcher for Cloquet, she pitched 5 innings gave up six runs, only one run was earned. She had six strikeouts and walked two batters. Korman picks up her tenth win of the season.

Cloquet scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth on four hits as they ten run Raiders 16-6. Cloquet moves on to the double elimination section 7AA semifinals next Tuesday in Cohasset, they will face Virginia in a semifinal match-up.
