Katie Thun and Stephanie Kallberg combined for 21-kills on Friday night as the Hermantown Hawks opened the high school volleyball season with a 3-1 victory over the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers.

The Hawks won 25-7, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-8 in taking their first match of the season.

While Thun and Kallberg controlled the tempo of play at the net for Hermantown the Hawks also were receiving spirited play from setter Kayla Anderson who finished with 21 set assists in the win. Nicole Kucza also did a nice job at the net by coming up with four blocks in the win.

Maddie Schenk helped the Marshall cause by notching 15-set assists, while Sydney Adams and Mary Krenzen added six and four kills respectively.
