Hermantown Girls Fall To Marshall 5-2

The Hermantown Hawks opened the girls high school tennis season with a tough 5-2 loss to the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers on Wednesday afternoon.

Madelyn Miller, who defeated Maddie Auvinen at #1 singles, was the long singles player to pick up a win for the Hawks. MIller beat Auvinen 7-6 (7-2) and 6-2. Danielle Luke of Hermantown lost at #2 singles to Mary Baumgartner 6-2, 6-3, at #3 singles Anna VanDeelan fell 6-3, 6-3 to Azalea Ginet and Rachal Collier lost her #4 singles match to Tiffany Wong 6-3, 6-2.

The Hawks rebounded to win the #1 doubles match when JoAna Carlson and Mariah Ruhanen downed Erin Paul and Clara Espe of Marshall 6-4 and 6-0. Marshall’s Hannah Auvinen and Natagha Khwaja beat Elizabeth Carlson and Brianna Garcia-Meyer 7-5, 4-6 and 6-2 at #2 doubles.


The Hilltoppers continued their winning ways when they picked up a win at #3 doubles by Cami McKee and Morgan Flaherty 6-3, 6-4 over the Hawks duo of Baily O’Connell and Stephanie Collins.
