Northland Volleyball Teams Kick Off Season

Volleyball teams in the Northland kicked off their volleyball season’s this past week, all with the same goal in mind, winning their section title.

In Section 7A, the juggernaut Carlton Bulldogs started the season off on the right foot against Deer River on August 30th, winning 3 matches to 2. On September 1st, they moved to 2-0 after topping their cross town rivals, the Wrenshall Wrens, in three consecutive matches. They will look to move to 3-0 when they play against Cloquet on September 6th.

Also in Section 7A, the Cook County Vikings notched their first win on September 1st, sweeping the Barnum Bombers. The Vikings lost their first game of the season against Duluth Marshall on August 30th. The Vikings play again on September 8th when they hit the road to play the Esko Eskomos.

The Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers look to make an impact in Section 7AA, starting their season off with a 2-1 record. They opened the season up losing in three matches to Hermantown but bounced back with consecutive wins over Cook County and the Cloquet Lumberjacks. The Hilltoppers won’t play again until September 13th when they head up north to play Silver Bay.

The Cloquet Lumberjacks, another Section 7AA team, have started their season off with an 0-2 record, falling to Duluth East and Duluth Marshall, but they look to get on the winning track on September 6th when they travel to play Carlton

The Hermantown Hawks, also in Section 7AA, have started their season off with a 2-0 record after beating Duluth Marshall in three matched. The Hawks would then go on to beat the Esko Eskomos, 3-1 in 4 matches. Hermantown looks to remain perfect against the Duluth Greyhounds on September 6th.

Another 7AA team, the Moose Lake Willow River Rebels have started with an early 2-0 record, notching wins over Hinckley-Finlayson and Two Harbors. They will be back in action on September 6th when they host Mora.

In Section 7AAA, the Duluth East Greyhounds are off to a nice start with a 3-0 record. They have notched victories over Woodbury, Cloquet, and Ashland to begin the year. The Greyhounds will battle the undefeated Hermantown Hawks at home on September 6th.

Also in 7AAA, the Duluth Denfeld Hunters have went 1-1 to begin the season. The Hunters fell in 4 matches to Greenway to start the year but bounced back with a solid victory over Virginia in 4 matches. The Hunters look to stay in the win column on September 6th when they head south to battle Princeton.
