Today will be a big day for local softball teams as sectional play heats up across the area. For local sports fans, Braun Park will be a hot bed of excitement as the Section 7AA Softball Tournament features four local teams.

Leading the local teams will be the Cloquet Lumberjacks who garnered the #1 seed in their Subsection last week. The Jacks had a first round bye, but will play a very good Greenway team this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.

The other 5:00 p.m. game will feature another local team, Esko, taking on International Falls. The Eskomos were the #2 seed in the East.

Things kick off at 3:00 this afternoon when Hermantown takes on Moose Lake-Willow River and Virginia plays Two Harbors.

Hermantown was the #1 seed in the West Subsection and is the team to beat in this year’s tournament, as they have not lost a game to a local team in Section 7AA all season.

The Section 5A tournament, featuring Barnum, will take place in Mora today with the Bombers playing Ogilvie and Braham playing Hinckley-Finlayson.

Section 7A playoffs move to the second round this afternoon as well in Cohasset with Carlton and Floodwood the lone local representatives. The Bulldogs of Carlton are on a roll with 10 straight wins and they will take on Littlefork-Bigfalls at 5pm.
