It’s been upset city in the Section 5A girls softball tournament this season. In the East Subsection the only top seed to survive has been Barnum. The number two, three and four seeds all lost in the first round with only #1 seed Barnum coming away with a victory.

The Bombers defeated Cromwell in the first round 11-0 in a game that took both Friday and Tuesday to complete. With Barnum leading 3-0 on Friday night, the game was suspended because players had to attend events at the high school due to graduation. The game was then finished on Tuesday morning and the Bombers then hosted Braham Tuesday night. The Bombers defeated Braham in that second round game 5-2. Braham, the #5 seed, had made it to the second round by upsetting McGregor the #4 seed 14-5 in the first round.

The #2 seed in the East Subsection, Royalton, was beaten by the #7 seed Hinckley-Finlayson 15-13 in a wild game in Royalton.

Finishing off the first round of upsets was Ogilvie, the #6 seed, as they beat #3 seeded Isle 5-3.

In Tuesday’s finals the Bombers will take on Ogilvie,
who pulled out a second straight win by beating Hinckley-Finlayson 15-8.

If Barnum should win the East Subsection they would then take on the winner of the West Subsection next week.
