All records are meant to be broken, however some take longer than others to break. On Tuesday Cloquet Senior Haylee Peterson set herself apart from many years’ worth of Lumberjack distance runners when she broke a 25 year old school record Tuesday.

Peterson turned in a 2:20.1 time in the 800 meter run, eclipsing the old record of 223.01 set way back in 1986 by Carolyn Nelson. Peterson’s record setting time which broke the old record by nearly three full seconds was set at the Hermantown Quad Track Meet.

Cloquet Track Coach Tim Prosen said Peterson is very deserving of the record because among other things she is focused and has clear goals. “She deserves it, she came into season totally prepared, and she puts in the extra miles.” Prosen commented.

The host Hermantown Hawks won the girls side of the meet with 89 points while the boys portion of the meet was won by Duluth Central with 86 points.
