ML-WR Boys Win 25-1 In A Hit Parade

DULUTH- In the rain and drizzle Saturday, on the campus of the University of Minnesota- Duluth, the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels found a comfort zone unlike they have seen all season long as the Rebels pounded out 22 hits in five innings with the Rebels defeating the Duluth Marshal Hilltoppers by a score of 25-1.


It was a hit parade that started in the first inning and continued throughout the game. Moose Lake-Willow River scored three runs in the top of the first inning, added seven more in the second and five in the third to take a 15-1 lead after three innings. The fourth inning saw the Rebels add one more run, and in the fifth the hits kept coming as they added nine more runs to make it the final score of 25-1.


“We just hit the ball” Head Coach Lyle Halverson told Northland Sports Online. “They guys pounded the ball each and every hit was a ball hit hard; there were no cheap hits today.” Halverson added “We had eleven hits yesterday against Pine City and we continued today; it was nice to see us playing well as sections start soon.” The Rebels had beat Pine City on Friday 10-7, Tyler Huso, Trevor Nummela, and BJ Young all had two hits in the Rebels win Friday, with Nummela the winning pitcher.


Saturday saw multiple players having outstanding games for the Rebels. Atop the list was Nathan VanZee, who went 4-4, with a two run home run and 5 RBI’s, he also scored 3 runs. Abe Young also finished 4-4 and scoring five runs. Young also added a triple and 2 RBI’s. Tyler Huso went 3-4 with 3 runs scored; Nummela also went 3-4 with 4 RBI’s and 4 runs scored. BJ Young was 3-5 with 2 RBI’s, 2 runs scored, and a double.


Rounding out the Rebels offensive barrage on Saturday was Spencer Clough, who finished 2-4 on the day with 5 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored, and Ryan Adamczak who went 2-3 with 5 RBI’s, a double and 2 runs scored in the Rebels victory. BJ Young was the winning pitcher allowing only one run which came in the Marshall third inning when Ian Zenner scored on a single from Doug Lewis. Young gave up three hits; Zenner had two of the three hits for Marshall.


The Rebels improve to 12-5 on the season with the win and they will be in action again on Tuesday when they play at Barnum in a Polar League battle. Duluth Marshall falls to 3-8 on the season and will face the Barnum Bombers on Monday in Barnum.
