ML-WR Girls Outlast Pequot Lakes

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels girls’ softball team opened Section 7AA playoffs against Pequot Lakes.
The Rebels came away with a 10-8 win over the Patriots.
ML-WR will
now advance to the section 7AA quarterfinals on Thursday.

“We didn’t play our best game of the year,” head coach Katie Collier told Northland Sports Online. “But we found a way to win…We threw the ball around today, but we had a couple big hits that carried us.”

One of those big hits was Amanda Larson, who hit a grand slam home run for the Rebels. Katie Youngberg had a good day at the plate also for the Rebels, going 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Hillary Peterson was also 3-4 with an RBI. Katie Youngberg was the winning pitcher striking out 13 Patriots in the Rebel victory.

With the win, the Rebels advance to face the number one-seeded Hermantown Hawks. The Hawks defeated Eveleth-Gilbert 17-0 to advance to the quarterfinals also. Quarterfinal action is Thursday at Braun Park in Cloquet. The Semi-Finals and finals will be played at Whitney Park in Cohasset.
