Saunders Pitches No-Hitter In Bulldogs Playoff Victory

The Carlton Lady Bulldogs used nine runs in third inning to down Northland-Remer in first round playoff action. The number one seed Bulldogs started the playoffs on the right foot by beating Northland-Remer by a score of 12-2 in five innings at Chub Lake Park on Tuesday.

Mia Saunders pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11and issuing an understandable six walks in cold and windy conditions to get the five inning victory.

Saunders also led Carlton on the offensive end with two hits and 3 RBIs. The big hit of the game came from Holly Nelson who belted a bases-loaded double, netting her 3 RBIs. Other Bulldogs helping the cause were Brooke Camps, Melissa Clark, Christy Eggert, and Megan Nelson with two hits each.

Carlton now advances to the second round of the Section 7A playoffs on Thursday in Cohasset against the winner of the MIB – Little Fork Big Falls game. Winners will then begin double elimination action on Tuesday at Braun Park in Cloquet.
