The Barnum Bombers won a pair of games on Tuesday, advancing them to the Section 5A semi-final double elimination tournament at Whitney Park in St. Cloud starting Thursday afternoon.

The Bombers opened up play against the Cromwell Cardinals on Tuesday morning.
The game was started last Friday, but was suspended due to rain. When the game was suspended, Barnum led Cromwell by a score of 3-0 after three innings. Barnum came out in the fourth inning and scored eight runs as they went on to win 11-0.

Barnum would then face another Bomber team, the Braham Bombers, Tuesday afternoon in Barnum. Barnum would win a close game by
a score of 5-2 as they advance to the double elimination tournament on Thursday. Barnum will face Ogilvie in the first semi-final match up; the other semi final teams have yet to be determined.

In the game against Braham, head coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online that “we had so many chances to put them away; we left so many runners on base.” Myhre would add, “Katrina Newman came up with two big hits” that would carry the Bombers to the win. Newman was also the winning pitcher Tuesday for the Bombers.

“You need to be ready to play every game” Myhre said. “Look at our section alone. The two, three, and four seeds all lost in the opening round…I am proud of how our team came together, especially with Newman out most of the season. We had so many girls step up their game.” The Bombers are looking to improve on their runner up finish last season in the Section 5A tournament. Barnum lost to the eventual state single A runner-up Maple Lake.
