2nd Annual Lumberjack Laps Set For Saturday

The second annual Lumberjack Laps Fun Run is set for Saturday May 21st at the Cloquet High School Track at 10:00 am on that Saturday morning. The Fun Run is a major fundraiser for the Washington Elementary School’s playground and technology fund.

This fundraiser is presented by the Washington schools P.I.E (Partners in Education Group). The event is designed to promote an increased awareness of the importance of fitness and health among young children and their families. There is an opening flag ceremony, mascot race, door prizes, concessions, awards ceremony and kids “fun” area.

Community Education’s ECFE department will be sponsoring a FREE Bounce House for children 11 and under during the Lumberjack Laps from 10:15 – 2:15 on the softball field. The early childhood staff will be on hand to supervise.

There are seven ages divisions for the fun run starting with age 0-4, followed by 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-18, and 19 and older. Medals are awarded to the top three boys and girl finishers in each 18 and under division. Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall finishers in the Legacy Mile Walk/Run. All 12 and under finishers will receive a participation ribbon.

Race t-shirts will be available for purchase. They are $8.00 each and they must be pre-ordered, short-sleeved race t-shirts are available if order is received by May 7th. If pre-ordered, they will be available to pick up at the event. T-shirt orders received after May 7 are not guaranteed to be available on race day.

The race divisions will feature a 100 yard dash for the 0-4 age group, ages 5-6 and 7-8 will all run ¼ mile. 9-10 year olds will run ½ mile as will the 11-12 year olds. 13-18 will be a one mile race, and those 19 and older there will be a one mile walk/run, or what is referred to as a legacy run.
