Esko Boys and Girls Win Polar League Conference Meet

Total domination is pretty much the way to describe the Esko Girls Track Team’s win at the Polar League Conference meet in Barnum on Wednesday. The Esko girls won 11 of 12 track events and added 3 more wins in the field to capture first place in the girls side of the meet with a whopping 271.5 points to second place Two Harbors 91.5 points.


The Esko boys team also took home first place honors with a bit closer margin of 171 points to second place Two Harbors’ 146. MLWR was third at 89 ½. Cromwell finished fourth, followed by Barnum in fifth, McGregor in sixth, Floodwood was seventh, Cook County eighth, Silver Bay was ninth, Carlton tenth and Wrenshall came in last.


On the girls side it was Esko handily beating the rest of the competition with the previously mentioned 271 ½ points. Two Harbors was second with 91 ½, and MLWR was third at 57. Cromwell placed fourth, Cook County fifth, McGregor was sixth, Carlton seventh, Barnum eighth, Silver Bay ninth, Wrenshall tenth, and it was Floodwood finishing in last. This is the second straight year that both the boys and girls teams have won the conference championship.


Esko’s dominance included three solo event wins for Alyson Glumac who won the 100 & 200 meter dashes along with the triple jump. Caitlyn Lilly won two events the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Olivia Rengo won the 400, Kailee Kiminski took first in the 1600 meter run, and Kallyn Knutson won the 3200 meter race.


Esko also dominated all four relay races, taking home first place in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and the 4×800 meter relays. Janae Beaudot finished first in the high jump and it was Brooke Schramm winning the pole vault for Esko. Mercedes Adams of Barnum was the winner of the shot put event.


Tyler Sulkowski placed first in the 400 meter dash for Cromwell in the boys events; it was Ryan Guthrie of Esko winning both hurdle events the 110 meter and the 300 meter races. Cromwell won the 4×400 relay while Esko won the 4×800 relay race. Nathan Vargas of MLWR won the shot put, Jake Stainbrook of Esko won the High Jump and Max Reinertson won the triple jump.
