Carlton Rallies For 10-9 Win Over Esko

The Carlton Bulldogs scored five runs in the last two innings to overcome a six run deficit and win this Polar League battle against Esko at Chub Lake Park Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh to win this contest by a 10-9 score at home.


The Eskomos scored first Tuesday as they put solo runs on the board in the first and second innings to lead 2-0. Carlton rallied right back scoring three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead. Esko put five runs on the board in the top of the third inning and added two more in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead.


The Bulldogs battled back, chipping away at the Eskomos lead by scoring two runs in the fourth inning, three more in the sixth and the final two runs in the seventh inning as the Bulldogs pick up the win at home. Carlton improves to 5-5 on the season and 2-3 in the Polar League while Esko falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Polar League.


Andy Hendricks led the Eskomos with three hits, he also scored two runs and had a run batted in. Tyler Gregg added two hits in the loss for Esko and Zach Wirtanen added two runs batted in. Kovac was the losing pitcher for the Eskomos on Tuesday. Esko is back in action again on Wednesday when they face Cook County in Grand Marais.


The Bulldogs were led by Colton Godbout and Zach Veno who each finished with two hits on the day. Veno knocked in three runs for the Bulldogs who took advantage of eight Esko bases on balls given to the Bulldogs. Kyle Gunderson was the winning pitcher on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will face the McGregor Mercuries on Thursday afternoon at McGregor.
