MOOSE LAKE- When the Rebels lost a home game on Monday afternoon to Hermantown, the Rebels needed to put that game behind them and focus on their Tuesday opponent and they did just that as the Rebels improved to 6-0 in the Polar League by defeating the Floodwood Polar Bears by a score of 9-4.

“This was a big win, a really big win,” Head Coach Lyle Halverson told Northland Sports Online. “We needed this game, this one was one we wanted” Halverson added “we were a little down and wore out after a tough weekend tournament; playing six games over eight days wears you down some.” Halverson also stated “we needed to jump out front and that’s exactly what we did tonight.”

The Rebels took the early lead on Tuesday as they scored one run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead when Tyler Huso scored on a single from Trevor Nummela. The Rebels made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning BJ Young scored on a sac fly from Trevor Nummela, and Abe Young who had doubled, scored as the Rebels had the bases load and Trevor Bernsdorf walked Nathan VanZee to make it a three run game.

Floodwood tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. The Polar Bears started with a walk and two straight singles that drove in two runs, the tying run came later in the inning as Caine Davis scored on a fielder’s choice. Floodwood took its only lead in the fifth inning when Trevor Bernsdorf was hit by a pitch, the Rebels pitchers had a hard time finding the strike zone and three consecutive bases on balls led to the Polar Bears only lead at 4-3.

The Rebels answered right back in the bottom of the fifth when Singles by Tyler Huso and Trevor Nummela were followed up by a three run home Run off the bat of Spencer Clough. The Rebels added another run in the inning when Ryan Adamczak came into score after Bernsdorf had trouble finding the strike zone and a walk to Abe Young added the fourth run of the inning with the bases loaded.

The Rebels added two insurance runs in the sixth inning with a pair of triples from Nummela and VanZee. That, along with a single squeezed in there from Clough, the Rebels held the final margin of victory at 9-4. Clough got the victory in relief for the Rebels and he finished with four runs batted in on the offensive side.

The win moves the Rebels comfortably out in front in the Polar League standings as they improve to 8-4 overall and 6-0 in the Polar League Conference. They will have another test on Thursday when they face the Silver Bay Mariners in Silver Bay. Floodwood falls to 6-3 on the season and they are also in action on Thursday when they host Cook County.
