Silver Bay used a strong first three innings to help them defeat Esko in high school baseball on Thursday afternoon. The Mariners scored seven runs in the first three frames and downed the Eskomos 9-2.

Two runs in the first, another in the second and four runs in the third gave Silver Bay a cushion of 7-2 as they breezed to the win behind the pitching of Ryan DeShaw. DeShaw finished with a six-hitter, five walks and two earned runs, but he also fanned 14 Eskomos in a solid game.

On the other side of the plate the Eskomos struggled to find ways to get to DeShaw and they did not have a hitter who had a multiple hit game.

Meanwhile Max Reinertson, Austen Kovac and Corey McDonnell all pitched in the game for the Eskomos. The trio gave up 10 hits, nine runs (all of which were earned) and to make things more difficult there were 10 walks for Esko as well.

Things won’t get any easier for the Eskomos who will look to get back on track Thursday when they host a Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels team that is off to a 6-1 start this season.
