ML-WR Boys Now 6-1 On The Season With Win Over McGregor

MOOSE LAKE- Tuesday afternoon the Moose Lake –Willow River Rebels were caught stealing only once in eleven attempts; the one time they were unsuccessful was when they were caught stealing home. The Rebels went on to steal ten bases successfully and ran their way to victory on Tuesday afternoon as they defeated the McGregor Mercuries by a score of 7-4.


The first three innings both team would struggle to get any runs on the board, but both teams had several chances. McGregor scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning, but the Rebels responded in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead after four.


The Rebels were aided by three walks followed by three straight hits which proved to be the difference. BJ Young, the starting Rebel pitcher Tuesday aided his own cause with a double deep to left center in the inning. The Rebels added runs in the sixth and seventh inning to give them the seven runs they needed.


McGregor added one run in the fifth inning and two runs in the top of the seventh but it was too little too late. Trevor Nummela went 2-2 with two runs scored and three stolen bases in the Rebels victory. Abe Young added two hits and a RBI, Ryan Adamczak, Jon Michalsky, BJ Young, and Jake Christopherson all added RBI for the Rebels.


BJ Young was the winning pitcher going the distance for the complete game win. Young only allowed four runs; only two of which were earned. Young added three strikeouts walked just two batters. Tony Sorenson was 2-2 for McGregor with two runs batted in.


The Rebels improve to 6-1 overall on the season and they will play at Esko on Thursday afternoon. McGregor falls to 6-3 on the season and will face Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night in Brainerd.
