The Cloquet baseball team went 2-1 in the Bugliosi Wooden Bat Tournament in Hibbing over the weekend. The Jacks picked up wins against Thief River Falls and Hibbing and they lost to Superior.

“I think we played very well over all,” said Cloquet coach Steve Jezierski. “Our pitching has been pretty good and they have kept us in games lately.”

The Jacks opened with a 10-1 win over Thief River Falls and then fell 4-2 to Superior before bouncing back and beating Hibbing 5-1.

“Dedric Clark pitched a very good game against Hibbing,” recalled Jezierski. “He gave up one hit, and that was questionable and he struck out 15.”

The Lumberjacks will face Duluth Marshall under the lights at Ed Mettner Field tonight in a make-up game. On Tuesday, the Jacks will host Central and on Thursday. They will close out their regular season at home against Grand Rapids.

“If we play the way we are capable of playing we can beat anyone in the playoffs,” Jezierski commented. “However, if we don’t come ready to play then anyone can beat us just as well. We need to make sure we are ready to go and come out from the start ready to play.”
