This spring has seen the weather playing major havoc with local high school teams and the spring sports schedule as rain, snow, wind have been more common than the sunshine. This was true on Saturday as the Esko Eskomos annual baseball tournament was washed out on Saturday with only one game of the four that were scheduled completed.

The Warroad Warriors on Friday defeated the Esko Eskomos by a score of 15-4 to win the opening game of the tournament. On Saturday the Proctor Rails jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one inning against Warroad, but that game was cancelled due to the heavy rains falling as tournament officials decided that was it for the 2011 tournament.

The Tournament was featuring two new teams this year as the Proctor Rails and the International Falls Broncos were added to the tournament replacing last year’s winner Cloquet and Duluth Central. Warroad finished second last year and the Eskomos finished third in the tournament.

The only completed game was the 15-4 victory on Friday. Warroad was aided by a big second inning when they scored six runs, they also added five runs in the fifth and three in the third inning, then closed with one run in the seventh inning. Alex Sandahl, Ross Merriman, Tyler Hansen, Alan Peterson, and Ryan Pietruszewski all finished with two hits in the Warriors victory. Peterson was the winning pitcher allowing only five hits in four innings pitched.

The Eskomos had seven players getting hits in the loss Friday afternoon, Jake Stainbrook and Andy Hendricks each drove in a run for Esko. Ryan Holte was the losing pitcher for Esko, who fall to 1-3 on the season. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they will host Silver Bay.
