The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels won their fifth straight game to improve to 5-1 on the season as the Rebels shut out the Carlton Bulldogs 7-0 at Chub Lake Park Monday afternoon. The win starts a busy stretch for the Rebels as this was the first of nine games over the next 11 days. The Rebels host McGregor-Cromwell on Tuesday. The Rebels jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. That would be all the runs the Rebels needed as they went on to win by seven. Abe Young, Trevor Nummela and Tyler Huso all singled in the inning while Ryan Adamczak doubled in two runs to put the Rebels in front 4-0 after one inning.

The Rebels added two more runs in the fourth inning; it was Nummela again coming through with a base hit that scored one run and B.J. Young also added a RBI single in the inning. The Rebels closed their scoring in the sixth inning when Young and Nathan VanZee had back to back doubles which led to the final Rebel run of the game.

The Rebels threatened again in the seventh inning and had two runners on base with no outs when the Carlton Bulldogs turned a triple play, a play which is rarely seen at the professional level and almost unheard of at the high school level. A ball hit to the shortstop was thrown to second for the first out, the throw to first base got the batter and the runner who was at second base was thrown out trying to score at home.

Abe Young, Trevor Nummela, Ryan Adamczak, and BJ Young all finished with two hits in the game, Nummela and Adamczak both added two runs batted in. Adamczak was the winning pitcher finishing with only two hits given up.

Carlton could only manage two hits on the afternoon as Tanner Thorman and Kyle Gunderson each reached on a hit for Carlton. The Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the season and they will be back in action again on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Floodwood to face their Polar League rival, the Polar Bears.
