Thomas Madison sprinted for four touchdowns and the Hermantown Hawks rode a 31-point second quarter to an easy 51-14 victory over the Cloquet Lumberjacks in high school football on Friday night at Rol Bromberg Field in Cloquet.

The game was played in ideal fall weather conditions and on a night where the Lumberjacks hoped to pull off an upset against the Hawks during Cloquet’s homecoming celebration.
Those thoughts were dashed when Madison churned his way for a nine-yard touchdown run on an impressive opening drive that consumed nearly six minutes and 12 plays.  By the end of the first quarter the Hawks added another Madison run for a touchdown, this time from eight yards out, and after the Cody McShane extra point kick the Hawks led it 13-0 and that’s how things stood at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter proved disastrous for Cloquet and quite the opposite for the Hawks, who never punted in the game, as Hermantown notched four touchdowns in the quarter as well as a safety.
The lone bright spot on the night for Cloquet came when sophomore running back Spencer Wehr who ran for the first touchdown of the second quarter by capping an impressive drive in which the young running back ran for an eight yard touchdown.
Wehr was the only back to touch the ball in the drive and proved difficult to deal with for the Hawks defense.  On the night Wehr finished with 98 rushing yards for Cloquet.
The loss drops Cloquet to 2-3 on the season, while the Hawks improved to 5-0.
