Hilltoppers Fall To Virginia In Nailbitter

The Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers fell to the Virginia Blue Devils on Friday night in a nail bitter, falling 28-20.

Virginia got out to the quick lead off of a 7 yard run from Beau Foix, making it 7-0. Duluth Marshall responded in the 2nd quarter when Jack Burt scampered 33 yards to make it 7-6. Virginia answered that score when Foix connected with Bo Zupetz from 8 yards out to make it 14-6 at the half.

Virginia moved the score to 21-6 in the beginning of the 2nd half when Drew Aho returned the kickoff 75 yards. Burt scored again for the Hilltoppers, this time on an impressive 95 yard run. Josh Klun converted the 2 points to make it 21-14 at the end of the 3rd.

In the 4th, the Hilltoppers would score on another long play, this time Michael Kenesevish scoring on a 72 yard run. The Hilltoppers wouldn’t convert the 2 point attempt, making it 21-20. Virginia put the final nail in the coffin on a 67 yard run by Ricky Benda, making a final of 28-20.

The Hilltoppers fall to 0-5 on the season and will look for their first win on September 25th when they host Eveleth-Gilbert (4-1). The Blue Devils are now 1-4 on the year.
