Wilderness Fall in Opener

Todd Burgess had two goals to lead the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to a 6-2 victory over the MN Wilderness Wilderness.

Burgess scored at 28 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks and again while on the power play 36 seconds into the second to make the score 2-1 Fairbanks.

Fairbanks stifled MN Wilderness’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Fairbanks additionally got points from Clay Cross, who also had one goal and one assist. Liam Stirtzinger also scored for Fairbanks. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Logan Coomes, who had two and Ryner Gorowsky and Alex Mehnert, who each chipped in one.

The Wilderness were helped by Brett Heikkila, who tallied one goal. Heikkila scored 4:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brian Hurley provided the assist. MN Wilderness also got a goal from Koby Bender as well. In addition, MN Wilderness received assists from Ashton Calder and Jacob Hamacher, who contributed one each.

Andrew Lindgren recorded 21 saves for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. MN Wilderness’ Chase Munroe stopped 19 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Wilderness incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
