Friday afternoon, teams in Section 7AA found out their seeding positions for the upcoming tournament. Cloquet was named as the first seed in their half of the section with Esko receiving the second seed. In the pouring rain on Friday afternoon, Cloquet played Section 7AAA team the Denfeld Hunters. The Jacks fell 10-5 in a game shortened due to adverse weather conditions.

The rain was little more than a drizzle up until about 10 minutes before game time and that is when the skies opened up and it stayed that way the rest of the evening. Cloquet pitcher Katrina Korman had the difficult task of holding on to the ball and throwing strikes in miserable conditions. Denfeld capitalized on walks, errors and hit batters to grab a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Cloquet fought back late in the game, but Laura Bellamy kept the Jacks in check just enough to pick up the victory.

The game probably should not have been played at all since it had no bearing on either team’s position in their respective sectional tournaments and because of the danger factor of the ball getting away from the pitchers in the downpour. Bellamy managed to keep just enough grip on the ball to come away with a 3-hitter, while Jessica Havron had a pair of hits with a double and Kaitlyn Bagley also added two hits with a pair of runs batted in.
